Bruno: Freddie's thing28 May 2006 23:15
If it weren't for his tone of voice, how would you recognize it's Freddie singing? I've noticed he does this thing in some songs which is ... well, Freddiesque. He quickly slides up on the ending tone. I'm not sure if there is a name for this effect.

e.g.

CLTCL - "She drives me craZY", "... cold feVER", "...till I'm reaDY"
Man On The Prowl - "...left me aloNE", "watch oUT", "honey come hoME"
Machines - "...no soUL", "...take ovER", "...I don't caRE"
Don't Try Suicide - "...you need liFE"

And at the moment, I can't think of any other song, but I'm sure there are many more. Can you help me to make a list of all the songs featuring this effect just to see how often did Freddie use it?

Yes, I remember pointing that out when I said that not all backing vocals in '39 were by Brian.

Well, i really dont think that it's something really special on Freedie,   that effect was popular in the 50's with the rockabilly move,   you'll hear lot of it on Elvis or Jerry Lee, probably that is why you hear it a lot on CLTCL.   It's something Freedie took form others and adapt to his style but it isn't what you can call something recognisable of his singing
