PD: Escape Tone, Appoggiatura, Suspension...31 Jan 2005 16:21
A useful link about: appoggiatura, escape tone, suspension, retardation.
library.thinkquest.org

Suspension and retardation and the combination of the two is one of Brian May's trademark inside the band:
Procession (first half, 3rd measure), Dear Friends (2nd Verse, 2nd measure), Teo Torriate (outro, 3rd measure).

It`s interesting the contrast between Brian`s and Freddie`s renditions of Love Of My Life. The guitar version indeed includes some retardation and stuff like that, especially when he did it solo. Freddie`s piano version too changes tempo, but in a more "mathematical" way, much more exact and precise. Neither is "better", Fred`s is just perfect for the classical feeling of that version, Brian`s is way better for the human feel. No wonder why I like so much his ballads.
