PD: Chromatic riffs27 Oct 2002 16:45
Both Roger-penned songs on the Jazz album has a riff that combines a fixed note on bottom with chromatic steps. Some non-Queen examples of this type of riffs:
Bill Haley & The Comets: "Callin All Comets" (1957)
(The riff appears also in "Hot Dog Buddy Buddy")
Beatles: Hey Bulldog
Metallica: Master Of Puppets
Led Zeppelin: Dazed And Confused
and many more... (you can submit your examples)
J.C.Bach: "Ein Einzig Böses Weib"

Freddie in Death On Two Legs also plays chromatic-driven figure over a Bm chord.
In a similar harmonic situation a more line-cliché-like figure can be found in March Of The Black Queen. The title-phrase bears comparison with the Death On Two Legs riff.
